Raft Guide Grade 2 Assessment

The Paddle UK Raft Guide Grade 2 is run in conjunction with Paddle Scotland. The course assesses you in the fundamental skills of rafting following the Paddle UK grade 2 raft guide syllabus and is provided by our Paddle Scotland providers and trainers. Take your rafting to the next step and start out on the career of your dreams!

Our providers do the most to ensure that any stress is kept to a minimum on the day and instead aim to enjoy the day without putting pressure on people. You will be kept in the know the whole day with regards to any element of the syllabus that are needing to be seen. But we recommend you familiarise yourself with the Paddle UK white water rafting grade 2 guide syllabus and also have a look at the assessment guidance as linked.

Leadership eLearning and other online resources – The Paddle UK provide an optional e-learning module which guides you through the principles behind the Paddle UK Awarding Body Model of Leadership. If this is of use to you then take a look here!.

White Water Rafting is one of the most fun and popular river experiences in Scotland. Be assessed to guide a raft down grade 2 white water rivers safely, look after your crew and have a good time. And the level two guide is a qualification that is sought after around the world for rafting companies.

We would meet at Tamdhu station at 10:00 where you would meet your mock clients for the day and we would proceed to do a shuttle heading up to the top. The day consists of the four main sections as laid out below so please familiar yourself with the syllabus first.

• Valid NGB membership
• Registered for the course
• Safeguarding course
• First aid course
• White water safety and rescue

Becoming a Raft Guide Grade 2 can be a rewarding and fulfilling career choice for a number of reasons. Here are a few:

If you love paddlesports, becoming a raft guide  allows you to share that passion with others. You get to introduce people to the sport and help them develop their skills and confidence on the water.

Being a raft guide can be a great way to meet new people and build connections with like-minded individuals. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a variety of people from all walks of life, and you may even make some lasting friendships along the way.

If you enjoy being outside and working in nature, being a raft guide can be a great time. You’ll get to spend time on the water, enjoying the sun and fresh air while helping others develop their skills.

We pride ourselves on providing as much kit as possible for you.  However, the list below is what we recommend you should bring to your Raft guide Grade 2 Assessment:

• Something to go underneath a wetsuit – swimwear or a spare pair of underwear. (We do provide swimshorts to wear over the top of the wetsuit for greater style and modesty.)
• Travel insurance. (We are insured for all our trips, but we recommend everyone has their own travel insurance as well.)
• Transportation to the venue. (We may be able to help with this though – if you need transportation please drop us an enquiry and we can see what we can do to help.)
• Lunch, water.
• Personal medication
• Everything that you wish to bring kit wise as most people prefer to use their own personal paddlesports kit.

Here at Highland Outdoor Adventures, we pride ourselves on providing as much as we can but you are welcome to bring your own equipment if you do prefer. The list below is what we provide you with on the day.

It is expected normally when sitting awards like this people would come with at least their own personal equipment but we appreciate this is an entry level coaching award and not everyone may have things yet so we can still supply equipment if needed. We do find that people prefer to use their own.
