Canyoning Adventure Course Information
Canyoning at the Allt Na H Uamha
The Allt Na h Uamha – Gaelic (Burn of the big cave) is located near Loch Laggan between Aviemore and Fort William – due to it’s location it is often referred to as the Laggan canyon. In fact, this is one of Scotland’s classic Canyoning descents for adrenaline seekers! This, is one of our most popular days out for holidaymakers and groups staying in Aviemore and the surrounding area. In short, it is a fantastic experience with water chutes, high speed slides and flumes, jumps up to 20 ft with a final challenge to abseil down and behind a 40ft waterfall to finish by jumping through it (the final 3m).
This activity is best suited to adults groups and confident youths aged 11+ (although if individuals who are younger are experienced in canyoning & confident swimmers we may be able to make exceptions if you call or email us to discuss this in advance and we can ensure you have a private guide for your family so you can take your time and build confidence in the water as we work our way down). The meeting place is at the venue, you will then kit up and head into the canyon for your adventure -as you walk up to the top of the canyon (15 minutes) your guide will stop periodically and talk through the different features you see on the way so you get a chance to view everything you will be doing from above before you even get in the water.
A typical Itinerary would be to meet your instructor at the venue for 10:00. You will then kit up and spend the few couple of hours in the stunning canyon jumping, sliding and travelling down flumes before culminating in the abseil down to a ledge behind the waterfall followed by a jump through it.
You will most certainly get wet! As a matter of fact, the venues has jumps all the way to jumps 20ft. The flumes vary in length from 5ft long to 30ft long and to jump through a waterfall to finish is something you can do in few places anywhere in the world! In short, one of the most amazing adventures of your life is to canyon in Scotland! Guided by our expert instructors, you will have a thrilling adventure.
The venue we use for our canyoning sessions has been carved & eroded from the Scottish river over millions of years and is just a short drive from Aviemore or Fort William. The catchment area is off the hills of Creag Meagaidh and Benin A’ Chaorainn two of the larger hills in the area so it always has water even in the driest of summers. Ultimately, the erosion has formed natural fumes & pool, jumps up to 20ft, a waterfall we can abseil down and natural rock features we need to negotiate like bending rock slides – This is a challenging experience providing a truly adventurous day out in Scotland and you will not be disappointed!
We are proud to recommend local accommodation options within the area for people when you are up for your Canyoning Adventure:

This is a step down from canyoning and is slightly less extreme, better for families with children younger than ten. There are still jumps, slides & flumes for all.
