Accessibility Guide For Highland Outdoor Adventures

Highland Outdoor Adventures are situated in the very heart of Scotland – the Cairngorms National Park. From here we operate and provide activities at a wide variety of different venues right across the country. We want to provide you the best quality we possibly can and inspire you when you are with us.
Whether you book onto a paddlesports day, an adventure day, an expedition or a climbing day we guarantee you will come away with lasting memories of a great outdoor experience in Scotland.
The outdoor activity industry can be a hard industry for many people who have access requirements to get into. But this shouldn’t stop you or us or others! We will endeavour to try and work around your access requirements as best we can and would ask that anyone who needs any additional help on an activity or further information contacts us and we can discuss how best to support you and what activity might be best for you to do.
We have had individuals who can’t hear, see, have one leg and many other access requirements still enjoy partaking in an activity with us.

- Given we operate at many different venues, each venue is different and may be more or less suited to your requirements. For example wheelchair access in the outdoor environment is very tricky.
- In terms of hearing requirements, all of our instructors are very patient and more than happy to explain things as clearly as possible for people – for certain activities this may not be possible if you can’t hear at all – like white water rafting where your back would be to the guide so could not hear their commands. But if you have someone who can support you we will allow them to come on the activity free of charge.
- For the Visually impaired, the same as the above applies we are happy for any support individual to come along free of charge and we will endeavour to tailor the activities to your needs and desires as best as possible.
- For those with other physical or mental disabilities which you think might impact a day please get in touch with us and we may be able to provide assistance, alter a venue, set up a private course or even set up a bespoke activity for you different to what you see on the website.
Getting to your venue should be relatively easy as on every webpage there is a google map link with the venue location. on top of this, each booking email receives an confirmation where the google maps link is also accessible. We will always be at the venue early with our logo’ed vehicles so you can clearly make us out.
Every venue we have selected is easy to drive into with ample parking

Given most venues for the outdoor activities are naturally not in towns/cities etc getting to the venues does require transportation – local buses and trains may only get you some of the way so it is far easier to have a vehicle or a taxi accordingly.
On Activity we provide all the relevant safety equipment for the day and will brief clients appropriately for each activity we do.
Anyone needing any support or extra guidance on any activity should ask their instructor/guide on the day and we will tailor the day as best we can to support your needs.
All of our staff are trained and assessed in the activities they are leading or coaching in.
On every activity a safety briefing will be provided and any elements repeated ruing the day at relevant points. I.e. how to jump in the canyon.
Given we work in the outdoors and most activities occur on rivers, lochs, mountains and crags this means we are in a remote environment as such there are normally not any toilets at venues.
